Reporting & Workflows

Team and service dashboards, showback and chargeback, and unowned spend reports built on a maintained ownership model, plus trends and an API for export.

? Answers: Who owns this resource?

Free local tool
Limited to spotting unowned resources and basic allocation gaps locally, with no integrations or trending.
Cloud Sleuth Cloud
Team and service dashboards, showback and chargeback, scheduled reports, long retention with trending, and integrations.
Roadmap
Phase 1: simple allocation reports · Phase 3: Slack, Jira and ITSM integrations · Phase 4: IDP/service catalog integrations

Existing FinOps tools improve visibility into spend, but they do not create accountability or context. A dashboard that shows a growing bill without saying who owns the growth, or what it is for, leaves everyone looking at the same number and nobody responsible for it.

Reporting and workflows in Cloud Sleuth start from the ownership model. Every view is organized around who owns what, so each report points to the people who can act on it.

How it works

  • Team and service dashboards. Each team and service sees the resources it owns, what they cost, and its open policy findings.
  • Showback and chargeback. Allocated cost reports based on the ownership model, not on whichever tags happen to exist.
  • Unowned and unallocated spend. Reports on spend that has no owner or no allocation yet, with investigation tools to work out where it belongs.
  • Trends and coverage. Policy compliance trends and ownership coverage metrics, so you can see whether ownership across the estate is improving over time.
  • API and export. In Cloud Sleuth Cloud, send data to the finance, ITSM and observability tools you already use.

Why it matters

Unclear ownership is the root cause of most durable cloud waste, and reporting that ignores ownership just describes the same problem again every month. Reporting built on a maintained ownership model gives each role what it needs:

  • Engineering managers and team leads see what their team owns and what is safe to clean up.
  • FinOps practitioners can track unallocated spend and drive accountability for it.
  • Finance and leadership get showback and chargeback tied to a model someone actually maintains.
  • Platform engineers see where ownership is missing and which findings are still open.

Because the reports and the policy findings share the same ownership model, the team that sees a cost on its dashboard is the same team that receives the finding about it. That shared view is what moves an organization from reporting on waste to reducing it.

Free local tool vs. Cloud Sleuth Cloud

The free local tool shows unowned resources and basic allocation gaps in your own AWS and Azure accounts, without any data leaving your environment. It keeps data for only a few days and has no multi-user collaboration, integrations or historical trending. Cloud Sleuth Cloud is planned to add team and service dashboards, showback and chargeback, scheduled reporting, retention measured in months to years with trending, and integrations with Slack, Jira, ServiceNow, IDP and service catalogs, and finance systems.

Both are pre-launch. Get early access to hear first when they are ready.
